He Breathed Life Into Us

Why is Life so important and why should we honor God with it.

In Ezekiel 16:20-21 it says “‘And you took your sons and daughters whom you bore to me and sacrificed them as food to the idols. Was your prostitution not enough? You slaughtered my children and sacrificed them to the idols.

God's people had turned from Him and were sacrificing their children to other gods. God was angered that the people were taking the gifts that He had blessed them with and was using it to worship idols. They themselves used their bodies to engage in sexual activity as worship and sacrificed their children to these idols.

What are we doing with what the Lord has blessed us with? Are we honoring God with it or throwing it away to satisfy our self or others?

Ezekiel 23:36-39

36 The Lord said to me: “Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Declare to them their abominations. 37 For they have committed adultery, and blood is on their hands. With their idols, they have committed adultery, and they have even offered up[a] to them for food the children whom they had borne to me. 38 Moreover, this they have done to me: they have defiled my sanctuary on the same day and profaned my Sabbaths. 39 For when they had slaughtered their children in sacrifice to their idols, on the same day they came into my sanctuary to profane it. And behold, this is what they did in my house.

They even went into God's house and did it there. They used a place that was meant to bring God glory through worship and defiled it by worshiping idols there.

What is our reason for going to church, is it for self-gain, habit or to worship the only one true God to seek to get closer to him?

Psalm 139:13-16

13 For you formed my inward parts;

you knitted me together in my mother's womb.

14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.[a]

Wonderful are your works;

my soul knows it very well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you,

when I was being made in secret,

intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance;

in your book were written, every one of them,

the days that were formed for me,

when as yet there was none of them.

David was acknowledging that God made him and knew him. Just as God knows us and made us. Life is given to us by God to honor and glorify Him with it.

We all know I could just go off and say how horrible as a nation we are that we legally kill the unborn every day and call it our body our choice. I would not be wrong. Life is sacred and should be treated so from the moment of conception to natural death. We should stand for those that can't speak for themselves and teach those that are misguided the truth. God is the only creator of life and he doesn't make mistakes.

However, I think that these verses are also pointing us to reflect on as individuals what are we doing with the body and the other blessing God has given us? Are we honoring God with our eyes, ears, heart, mind, and yes even finances. It is so easy to get caught up in the things that we want to do that satisfy our desires and that are pleasing to us that may not be honoring God and His plan for our lives.

I know that many times I get sidetracked and find that I may be doing a little idol worship of self and have to do a check, repent and ask God to forgive me. I truly want to honor God with my life in all areas from the time I get up until I go to bed. With every breath in me, I want to do His will for my life.

I do know that His will is to put Him first in all we do and to honor Him with the gifts He has given us, to tell others the Good News of Jesus Christ, and to treat our life as the great gift God has given us by making Him the center of it all.

How will you and I choose to honor God with our life?
